CNC Setup Machinist

Shift: 2nd & 3rd Shift Available

Summary

The CNC Setup Machinist I is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC milling machines to produce precision parts that meet quality standards. This position requires hands-on machining experience and the ability to work independently in a production environment.

This is an hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the Production Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC milling machines using conversational controls (ProtoTRAK preferred)
• Read blueprints, process sheets, and job instructions
• Machine parts to tight tolerances (up to ±.0002”)
• Edit and adjust programs as needed
• Assist with setups and processes for new parts
• Select and install tooling, fixtures, and workholding
• Adjust speeds, feeds, offsets, and tooling during production
• Inspect first-piece and in-process parts using precision measuring tools
• Troubleshoot machining and setup issues
• Maintain coolant levels and basic machine maintenance
• Prepare materials and setups for upcoming jobs
• Operate secondary equipment during cycle times when needed
• Cross-train in other machining areas
• Keep work area clean and safe

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Minimum 1 year of CNC milling experience required
• Setup experience required
• Conversational programming experience preferred
• Ability to perform machine setups independently
• Blueprint reading and basic GD&T knowledge
• Experience holding tight tolerances
• Experience using micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges
• Understanding of speeds, feeds, tooling, and offsets
• Mechanical troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Steady rest experience is a plus
• Must provide basic hand tools

Physical Requirements

• Stand for extended periods (8–10+ hours)
• Lift up to 50 lbs as needed
• Frequent bending, reaching, and machine interaction required
