About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer on our team, you will be working with a team of talented developers responsible for creating the core software that powers Beam’s mission. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of front‑end and back‑end technologies, building new features, supporting existing functionality through bug fixing and enhancements, and helping us to continue levelling up our development practices. You’ll work closely with our product team and your fellow engineers to design and deliver practical and scalable solutions from spec to production.

- Node.js and TypeScript for most of our backend
- Next.js, React, and TypeScript for our partner‑facing portal site
- Lit web components for our SDK frontend
- PostgreSQL data store
- AWS ECS, Lambdas, and other cloud services
What You’ll Do
- Plan and refine new solutions through collaboration with our product and engineering teams using RFC and Tech Spec documents
- Drive the execution of your projects throughout the SDLC
- Be a force multiplier by sharing knowledge through code reviews, pair programming, 1‑1 conversations, and broader team trainings
- Participate in on‑call rotation for production infrastructure support
- Develop subject matter expertise in key areas of the Beam technology stack
- Gain knowledge of the nonprofit giving and e‑commerce enablement spaces
- Foster a team culture around Beam’s values of community, inclusivity, care, accountability and support
- Strive for continuous improvement through goal setting, feedback, and other growth opportunities
What We’re Looking For
- 4+ years building production systems for complex web applications
- Proficient in developing web applications using a JavaScript‑based framework such as React, Next.js, or similar
- Proficient in web architecture principles and API design
- Proficient with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
- Familiar with fundamental development principles and processes such as observability, performance optimization, continuous integration, automated testing, and cloud infrastructure
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain and advocate for technical projects to non‑technical roles
Nice to Haves
- Experience in an early startup
- Experience building e‑commerce sites, or building integrations with e‑commerce platforms
- Experience in a technical support or technical integration role
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field (or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience)
Compensation and Perks
- Expected annual compensation: $181,500 - $203,500 USD
- Base salary $165,000 - $185,000 USD
- Up to 10% annual bonus based entirely on individual performance

Location
Remote – our team works from anywhere. We also have office space in New York, currently in Hearst Tower, where you’re free to come work from as well. We have no plans to require in‑office work.
