Senior Project EngineerLocations: Waterville, Ohio or Etowah, TennesseeJohns Manville is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead the execution of complex capital investment projects across our manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of projects-from concept through commissioning-ensuring delivery is safe, on time, within budget, and aligned with defined scope and performance expectations.Typical projects range from $1M to $20M and involve multi-disciplinary systems such as material handling, abatement systems, utilities, and electrical controls.The Senior Project Engineer partners closely with plant leadership, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to ensure alignment, drive performance, and deliver business value.Your Day to Day:Project Leadership & ExecutionLead all technical and commercial aspects of large, complex capital projectsManage project scope, budget, schedule, deliverables, execution, and reportingDeliver projects safely, on time, within budget, and to agreed scope and functionalityOversee multiple projects concurrently and drive them to successful completionEngineering & DesignDevelop project scopes, specifications, schedules, and investment-grade cost estimates for multi-discipline projectsPerform mechanical and/or electrical detail engineeringEnsure all designs meet requirements for safety, quality, functionality, and cost-effectivenessDesign safe processes and equipment with a strong focus on ergonomics and hazard eliminationApply lean manufacturing principles to all aspects of designProcurement & Contractor ManagementDevelop technical specifications and contracts for equipment and servicesPrepare bid packages, evaluate supplier proposals, and recommend vendor selectionManage suppliers, contractors, and external engineering firms both on-site and remotelyPartner with Project Engineering leadership to evaluate and select engineering service providersStakeholder Engagement & CommunicationCollaborate with plant managers, business leaders, and cross-functional teamsLead a project team including plant personnel, discipline engineers, procurement, and external partnersProvide regular updates to the project steering team, including options, risks, and recommendationsMaintain clear communication regarding project status, issues, and changesProject Controls & ComplianceEnsure compliance with technical specifications, contracts, and company standardsEnforce all safety and environmental policies, driving a zero-incident cultureDevelop acceptance criteria and ensure successful project validation and signoffPrepare, maintain, and archive all project documentationContinuous Improvement & SupportIdentify and implement automation and product packaging improvementsSupport process, maintenance, and production teams in resolving equipment and process issuesDeliver training to maintenance and operations teams on new systems and processesWhat You Bring to the Team:Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical)5+ years of engineering experience in industrial or manufacturing environmentsProven project management experience with projects ranging from $1M to $20M+Demonstrated mechanical and/or electrical engineering expertiseStrong leadership, initiative, and problem-solving skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsProficiency with project scheduling tools such as MS ProjectStrong computer skills for analysis, reporting, and project trackingExperience managing contractors, subcontractors, and bid processesExperience developing estimates, schedules, and project deliverablesProven ability to write, review, and negotiate technical specifications and contractsAbility to manage projects across North AmericaWillingness to travel approximately 40-50%Additional Consideration for:PMP certificationExperience in glass or paper manufacturing industriesAutoCAD proficiencyExperience with SAP or other ERP systemsStrong negotiation skillsDemonstrated ability to develop innovative, complex engineering solutionsWhat Success Looks LikeProjects are delivered safely, efficiently, and aligned with business objectivesStrong collaboration across engineering, operations, and leadership teamsContinuous identification of improvements in automation, processes, and designEffective management of resources, vendors, and project risks Keep in Mind If you do not meet 100% of these requirements, we at JM still want to hear from you.
